Frequently Asked Questions: Newborn Edition

Newborn safety is the most important part of every photo session. I have been extensively trained in safe posing and always approach every session with a safety first mindset. Because of my experience with my own son who was on an oxygen machine for the first 6 months of his life, I am also knowledgable about airway support and recognizing subtle signs of breathing distress, and am far more knowledgable in this than any other photographer in the area.
-
The best time to schedule a newborn appointment is shortly after your 20 week anatomy scan, which ensures an open schedule. I usually book out 1-2 month in advance, so this is the ideal time, but anytime between 20-32 weeks pregnant will likely have availability for you. However, do not hesitate to reach out if you are farther along or your baby is already born as I do have more flexibility in scheduling newborn sessions than I do my family or maternity sessions as they are not sunset dependent.
-
I generally recommend sessions take place between 1-3 weeks old, as this is the ideal time for your baby to remain sleepy and prefer swaddled poses. However, anytime in the first 6 weeks generally works great. I will also photograph newborn sessions between 6-8 weeks if desired, but some swaddling and posed shots will no longer be possible at this age due to baby’s size and often resistance to being swaddled, and baby is much more likely to be fully awake for the session.
-
Since I specialize in In-Home Newborn Sessions, I'll come to your home fully prepared for our photo session, making sure to bring everything we need, from props to swaddles to baskets. Before our session, I'll chat with you about your favorite colors and the kind of pictures you envision, so I can tailor the props, swaddles, and equipment to match your style perfectly.
