My Own Pregnancy Story

The main reason I am so passionate about creating beautiful maternity images for other moms is because I did not get my own. I unfortunately had a very high risk pregnancy with my son that involved a lot of bed rest, and ultimately giving birth via an extremely emergency C-Section at 28 weeks pregnant that saved both of our lives. I unfortunately was not able to have maternity photos taken professionally and without the few iphone photos I begged my husband to take, I wouldn’t have had any pictures documenting this tumultuous but also impactful and meaningful time in my life. For this reason, every maternity session that I am able to photograph for someone else is an absolute triumph and celebration for me! I legitimately get SO happy for you to have these pictures! I know first hand what it is like to not have any and the feelings of longing and regret that I sometimes have as a result, and am so excited to be able to create beautiful memories for other moms that you will be able to treasure for life. I can’t wait to have my own maternity photos taken when I get pregnant next, and I am SO excited to take yours!

Oh, and my son? He is doing absolutely amazing now thanks to so many wonderful medical professionals who saved his life.

Maternity Photography: Frequently Asked Questions

Question 1: When should I take my maternity photos?

The best time to photograph your maternity session is between 28-34 weeks. This is the perfect time frame because you will already have a bump, but will not yet feel too uncomfortable when moving around during your photo session. The best photos with the most comfort! This timeframe also ensures that you will receive your photos before giving birth (provided you do not have an extremely premature birth). If you are having a high risk pregnancy, I recommend having your photo session at 26-27 weeks even, just to ensure you are able to take your photos.

Question 2: When should I book my maternity photo session?

The best time to book your session is immediately after your 20 week anatomy scan. This will allow 2-3 months of lead time to make sure there is availability for your session, while giving you the comfort of knowing how your pregnancy is progressing. If you are farther along than 20 weeks already, make sure to reach out ASAP to book your spot. It is common for me to book out 1-2 months in advance, but it never hurts to ask if you are already in that time frame, because I do have the occasional last minute opening. Even though I do recommend having your session between 28-34 weeks, there is also always the possibility of booking a later session between 35-38 weeks as well, if it is a last minute booking and the availability isnt there.
